Adams Homestead and Nature Preserve, Nature reserve in North Sioux City, United States.
Adams Homestead and Nature Preserve is a nature reserve along the Missouri River covering about 1,500 acres with varied landscapes. The grounds feature prairie land, forests, and riverbanks with extensive walking networks.
Stephen Searls Adams established the original homestead in 1872, which his granddaughters later donated. The property passed into South Dakota's ownership in 1984.
The preserve maintains four restored buildings from the past, including the Lamont Country School and the Sha Adams House. These structures show how families lived and worked in this region.
This location has about 10 miles of trails for hiking, biking, and cross-country skiing with equipment rentals at the visitor center. The grounds are open year-round and offer orientation help at entrances.
The preserve is home to over 100 bird species that arrive and depart at different times depending on the season. Additionally, special areas support pollinators and native insects throughout the year.
