Govind Nagar Beach

Govind Nagar Beach is a sandy shore on Havelock Island's southeast coast with pale sand and clear tropical waters. The beach features a gently sloping seabed and is backed by coconut palms and small fishing settlements.

Maritime activity has centered on this shore since the British colonial period when early settlers chose the island as a strategic outpost. The beach evolved from a purely administrative hub into a working fishing community that continues today.

The beach today serves as a workspace for fishermen who launch their traditional wooden boats each morning in designated areas. The nearby village continues to revolve around fishing practices that have defined life here for generations.

Reaching the beach requires a ferry ride from Port Blair to Havelock Island followed by a short road journey from the main jetty. Morning hours offer the calmest waters and the best light, while midday sun can be intense in this tropical location.

On certain nights throughout the year, bioluminescent plankton light up the waters in an ethereal blue glow when disturbed by swimmers or waves. This natural phenomenon occurs sporadically but transforms the shoreline into something otherworldly and rarely seen elsewhere.
