UBS Mayu, Museum ship and former frigate in Yangon, Myanmar.
UBS Mayu is a preserved River-class frigate measuring approximately 94 meters in length, featuring original armament including 4-inch guns, Bofors anti-aircraft weapons, and depth charge projectors that demonstrate mid-20th century naval engineering capabilities.
Originally built as HMS Fal by Smiths Dock Company in 1942 for the Royal Navy during World War II, the vessel was transferred to Myanmar in 1947 and served as the flagship of the Myanmar Navy for over three decades until decommissioning in 1979.
The ship represents a significant symbol of Myanmar's maritime heritage and national pride, having been renamed after the Mayu River in Arakan State to honor local officers and soldiers who fought against Japanese forces during World War II.
Located at the Myanmar Naval Training Headquarters in Seikkyi, visitors can explore preserved sections including control rooms, living quarters, and weapon systems during scheduled guided tours that provide educational insights into naval operations and maritime history.
UBS Mayu holds the distinction of being Myanmar's first flagship warship, having participated in numerous significant battles including operations at Insein, Pathein, and Kyauk Phyu during the country's post-independence military campaigns against insurgent groups.
