Thilawa Special Economic Zone, Industrial economic zone in Thanlyin, Myanmar
Thilawa Special Economic Zone is a large industrial area located south of Yangon that hosts factories, warehouses, and business facilities spread across two townships. The site includes developed infrastructure with roads, water and power supply, as well as comprehensive maintenance services for resident companies.
The zone was established in 2013 as a joint project between Myanmar and Japan to promote the country's economic development. Infrastructure construction began in 2014, making it an important investment destination for Asian industrial companies.
The zone represents Myanmar's commitment to international business standards through partnerships with Japanese corporations like Mitsubishi, Marubeni, and Sumitomo.
The zone provides ready-made infrastructure with roads, utility lines, and maintenance services for businesses. Visitors should allow enough time to explore the large site and find out in advance which areas are publicly accessible.
The management structure integrates both Myanmar and Japanese leadership, with operations supervised by the Thilawa SEZ Management Committee under Winston Set Aung.
