Plage Thiers

Plage Thiers is a sand beach stretching around 800 meters between two piers along Arcachon's seafront promenade. The shore provides changing facilities, showers, and a restaurant situated right at the water's edge.

The beach emerged during the 19th century as Arcachon transformed into a popular seaside resort for visitors from Bordeaux and Paris. Infrastructure was gradually developed to accommodate increasing numbers of swimmers and holiday makers.

The beach serves as a gathering place where locals and visitors mix for swimming and sunbathing throughout the year. Small beach cafes scattered along the shore create informal meeting spots for people spending their day by the water.

The beach is freely accessible with shallow, calm waters that make it safe for families with young children. Parking is available near the promenade, and mornings and early evenings offer quieter conditions than midday.

A five-meter-high whale tail art installation appears on the beach during summer months, visible from multiple vantage points along the shore. This temporary landmark serves as a popular meeting point and photo spot for visitors exploring the coastline.
