Marina di Vico

Marina di Vico is a beach on the Sorrento Peninsula where black sand and smooth pebbles slope gently into the Tyrrhenian Sea. The water is exceptionally clear, and the seabed drops gradually, making entry into the water easy and safe for swimmers.

This coastal spot sits near ancient Roman settlements that sustained the regional economy in classical times. The area served as an important port for trading ships that moved goods between Rome and other Mediterranean regions.

Fishing boats still work this stretch of coast daily, reflecting how the local community has long depended on the sea for its livelihood. You can watch the fishermen come and go, and the nearby restaurants source their fresh seafood directly from these catches.

The best swimming season runs from May through October when the water is warmest and conditions are most comfortable. Bring water shoes or water sandals because the black pebbles can be uncomfortable underfoot, or use the beach chairs and umbrellas available for rent.

The shoreline features distinctive rock formations, including the Margherita rock and a natural stone shape that resembles a turtle. This turtle-like formation inspired the name of the nearby Tartaruga beach, and swimmers can spot the shape from the water below.
