Santuario della Madonna della Libera, Religious sanctuary in Castellammare di Stabia, Italy
The sanctuary extends over 187 square meters on Mount San Cataldo, featuring three narrow naves, with the central one containing pews and side naves housing small chapels.
In the early 10th century, Benedictine monks painted a Madonna image in a natural niche, and in the 15th century Isabella del Giglio built a chapel around the rock.
The main altar displays a Byzantine fresco from the 9th-12th century depicting the Madonna of Tenderness with Child, known as Madonna della Libera.
Located at Via Madonna della Libera 2, the sanctuary includes a youth hostel and conference rooms, with access through a winding road from the Sorrentine highway.
On the 18th of each month, the sanctuary hosts celebrations, with the main festival occurring on June 18th featuring the Sagra dell'Acqua della Madonna.
