Bau Beach

Bau Beach is a dog-friendly shoreline in Fiumicino with around 7,000 square meters of sand along the Mediterranean. The space is designed to let dogs run freely, swim, and play while their owners enjoy the water and beach.

This location opened in 1998 as Italy's first officially authorized dog beach. Its founding represented a turning point in how dogs were accepted as companions in Italian leisure spaces.

The beach demonstrates how Italian attitudes toward pets in public spaces have evolved over time. On any sunny day, you can see dog owners gathering here with their companions, creating a social space where this community comes together.

Dogs need to show current vaccination records when arriving, and the beach has water stations, waste bins, and veterinary services available. It helps to bring fresh water and shade, especially on hot days.

A special offering is the Bau Boat Service, which takes dogs and their owners on trips along the Fiumicino coast. These boat rides provide a different way to experience the shoreline together.
