Praia Fluvial de Rapoula do Côa, River beach in Rapoula do Côa, Portugal.
Praia Fluvial de Rapoula do Côa is a river beach along the Côa River with wooden platforms extending into the water, backed by grassy banks and wooded sections. These natural features create sheltered zones and distinct areas for swimming and relaxing.
The Côa River served as a border between Portugal and the Kingdom of Castile in medieval times. The settlement was founded in the 12th century by Templars from Vila de Touro, and this frontier position influenced the area's early growth.
The name Rapoula comes from the Latin word for turnip, reflecting the agricultural roots of this fertile area. Visitors walking around the site can still sense this farming heritage through the rural landscape that surrounds the beach.
The beach provides restrooms, showers, and picnic areas with grills for visitors. A sports facility and the Giestal bar, set in a converted mill building, are also available on site.
In early August, the beach hosts 'Sunset Côa', a festival featuring live music and water games for guests. Designated zones in the river allow visitors to jump and dive into the water safely.
