Magic Sands Beach

Magic Sands Beach is a white sand shoreline in Kailua-Kona framed by coconut palms and black lava rocks that extend along the water's edge. The compact beach opens directly onto the bay, offering views across the Pacific with the natural volcanic landscape as a backdrop.

The beach was originally called White Sands Beach Park before its name changed due to shifting sand caused by powerful ocean currents. The new name reflected how nature constantly reshapes this shoreline through seasonal water movements.

The bay overlooks ancient Hawaiian temple ruins that remain visible from the shore, connecting this beach to the islands' spiritual traditions. These archaeological traces help visitors understand how this coastal area held deep meaning for local communities long ago.

The beach has lifeguards on duty, outdoor showers, restrooms, picnic tables, and a volleyball court for visitors to use. Coming here early or later in the day helps avoid crowds during peak times.

During heavy winter waves, the beach sand vanishes overnight as the ocean pulls it away, leaving behind dark lava rocks that cover the entire shoreline. When waters calm down, the sand gradually returns to refill the beach naturally.
