Magic Sands Beach

Located four miles south of central Kailua-Kona, Magic Sands Beach features a compact shoreline bordered by coconut palms and black lava rocks along the Pacific Ocean.

The beach was originally named White Sands Beach Park before earning its current name due to the frequent sand displacement caused by strong ocean currents.

The beach overlooks La'aloa Bay, where visitors can observe the ruins of Haukalua Heiau, an ancient Hawaiian temple that marks the area's traditional significance.

The beach offers amenities including lifeguard services, outdoor showers, restrooms, picnic tables, and a volleyball court, with operating hours from 6 AM to 11 PM.

During high winter surf, the beach sand completely disappears overnight as waves pull it into the ocean, exposing dark lava rocks until calmer conditions return the sand.
