Obispo Beach

Obispo Beach is a sand beach with a sheltered natural pool created by rock formations that shield swimmers from strong ocean waves and currents. The shoreline extends along this protected swimming area as its main feature.

A ship carrying Juan Alejo de Arizmendi, the first Puerto Rican bishop, wrecked nearby in 1785 while traveling from Santo Domingo. This event left its mark on the place by giving the beach its name.

The beach divides into two separate areas: one for swimming in the protected natural pool and another favored by people who practice water sports. This split reflects how locals and visitors shape their own experience of the shoreline.

Visitors should bring their own beach equipment and sun protection because the location offers limited shade and no rental facilities on site. It helps to arrive early to find good spots and have plenty of time in the water.

The beach serves as a nesting ground for sea turtles, with local volunteer groups working alongside environmental authorities to protect these marine animals. This conservation work makes the area a vital refuge for endangered species.
