Artouste, Winter sports resort in Ossau Valley, France.
Artouste is a ski resort located between 1400 and 2100 meters of elevation, spread across 150 hectares with 27 kilometers of slopes running through pine forests. Eleven lift systems, including a cable car starting from Lake Fabrèges, three chairlifts, and six surface lifts, provide access to the different sectors.
The municipality of Laruns established this winter sports destination in 1969, transforming the natural mountain landscape into an organized skiing domain. This development opened the area to winter sports activities on a larger scale.
The resort draws from Bearnese mountain traditions, and visitors can taste regional dishes like Cassolette Ossaloise and Royal Garbure in the slope-side restaurants. These recipes connect the dining experience to the valleys below.
Access to the resort is straightforward, with different sectors reachable through the lift network. Snow conditions vary throughout the season, so checking conditions before visiting helps you plan your day on the slopes.
The Soussoueou sector features long descents through pine forests with views of the distinctive Pic du Midi d'Ossau rising to 2884 meters. This scenic backdrop makes the runs in this area memorable for visitors.
