The Tata walls extend over 9 kilometers in length with a 6-meter-thick base and reach heights of up to 6 meters in certain sections.
Built between 1877 and 1897 during Tiéba Traoré's reign, this fortress withstood a 15-month siege by Samory Touré in 1887.
The Tata ruins demonstrate the military architectural expertise of the Kenedougou Kingdom during the nineteenth century in West Africa.
The fortress remains are visible across several Sikasso districts, including Mancourani, Médine, Wayerma, Bougoula ville, and Fulaso.
The complex features three distinct fortification levels, with an inner enclosure called Dionfoutou that served as the royal family residence.
