Ruines du tata Sikasso

The Ruines du tata Sikasso are remains of a large fortified wall system that once surrounded the city. Sections of the structure still stand at varying heights across different neighborhoods, with some areas showing better preservation than others.

The fortification was built in the late 1800s as a defensive structure under regional leadership. It later became part of military conflicts that shaped the region's history during that era.

The ruins reveal how the Kenedougou Kingdom demonstrated advanced building techniques and remain central to Sikasso's identity today. Local residents point out different sections of the walls and their roles in the kingdom's past.

The remains are scattered across several neighborhoods, so it helps to get oriented beforehand or hire a local guide. Walking through different sections and moving between districts takes time, so plan accordingly.

Inside the main fortification lay a smaller enclosed area that served as a residential zone for the ruling family. This inner core was structurally separate from the outer defensive zones.
