Bellboy, Bronze dwarf statue in Powstańców Śląskich, Wrocław, Poland
The Bellboy is a small bronze figure standing about 12 inches (30 centimeters) tall, dressed in a hotel uniform with a cap and posed as if ready for work. The statue shows careful details in the uniform and posture that capture the role of a hotel attendant.
The statue was installed on November 4, 2015, becoming part of a large collection of bronze dwarfs that originated from the Orange Alternative, a movement against communist rule. This art form later spread and developed into a city-wide phenomenon that continues today.
This statue represents workers in the hospitality business and connects with hundreds of other bronze dwarfs throughout Wrocław that depict different roles in city life. It tells the story of the many professions and occupations that shape daily activity here.
The Bellboy statue is located near the western side of the Hansel and Gretel houses and is easy to reach on foot. Because the figure is small, you need to approach it closely to see and photograph it properly.
The Bellboy belongs to a network of more than 300 bronze dwarfs spread across the city, each telling a different story about Wrocław. This makes the city home to the largest collection of these small bronze artworks anywhere in the world.
