Larcomar, Shopping mall in Miraflores, Peru
Larcomar is a shopping center built into the cliffs of Miraflores, Lima, with four levels of stores, restaurants, and a cinema. The complex fits into the hillside so that each floor faces the ocean directly, offering outdoor terraces where visitors gather while watching the Pacific.
The center opened in 1998 on a site that previously held a park and a restaurant, removed during the coastal redevelopment. The land once belonged to Hacienda Armendáriz, which covered much of what is now Miraflores until the mid-20th century.
The name joins the words Larco, after the nearby avenue, and mar for sea, describing its location between the city and the coast. The center brings together shops for clothing, electronics, and crafts with restaurants serving both Peruvian dishes and international food, while visitors enjoy ocean views from open terraces.
The complex sits directly on the coastal road Malecón de la Reserva and can be reached by stairs and elevators from street level. Parking is available on several underground levels, and entrances lead to the different floors of the center, with access open throughout the day.
The center is almost invisible from above because the buildings sit below street level, with only the top floor visible from the main road. The lower floors open toward the cliff, allowing visitors to move between the shops and the ocean views without the construction changing the coastline much from the outside.
