UTEC campus, Educational building in Barranco, Peru.
UTEC campus is an educational building in Barranco composed of perpendicular concrete structural plates that create a vertical composition with multiple levels housing classrooms, specialized labs, and garden terraces. The ten-story complex distributes these functions across different heights, producing a dynamic spatial arrangement throughout the structure.
The building was completed in 2015 following a design by Irish architects Yvonne Farrell and Shelley McNamara. The project emerged as an architectural response to the university's expansion within the historic arts district of Barranco.
The campus includes public cinema and exhibition areas that allow students and locals to share the same spaces, blending academic activities with community engagement.
The building facades are accessible for walking around and through the structure, allowing visitors to experience the architecture from multiple viewpoints and angles. Plan time to explore the different levels and landscaped terraces to fully appreciate the spatial design.
The north facade forms a massive concrete cliff that opens toward the city, making the structure appear as a natural extension of the landscape. This integration of building and topography demonstrates how architecture can respond to its urban surroundings in unexpected ways.
