Les Lapidiales, Sculpture park in Port-d'Envaux, France.
Les Lapidiales is a sculpture park situated in a former limestone quarry in Port-d'Envaux. It features approximately eighty monumental artworks by international artists positioned along stone walls and pathways that integrate with the natural limestone surfaces of the former extraction site.
The cultural association was founded in 2000 and began converting an abandoned quarry into a purpose-built space for art. This initiative transformed a site of industrial extraction into a venue dedicated to contemporary sculpture.
Each year, the site selects a different continental theme, with artists creating new sculptures using traditional hand tools and local limestone materials. This rotating focus shapes how visitors experience and understand the park's evolving character.
The park is open day and night year-round with no admission fees. A free parking area on Route D119 provides easy access for visitors arriving by car.
Artists work on-site for forty-five days between May and September, allowing visitors to observe the sculpting process and speak directly with the craftspeople. This hands-on encounter with artistic creation is what sets this place apart from typical art venues.
