Dilijan – Lake Parz, Hiking trail at Lake Parz in Dilijan National Park, Armenia.
Dilijan - Lake Parz is a hiking trail through beech forests in Dilijan National Park that leads toward Goshavank Monastery. The path covers several kilometers of terrain where mountain springs feed the lake and forest surrounds you on all sides.
The lake formed naturally through landslide activity in the mountains and became part of a protected reserve in 1958. The area gained National Park status later, formalizing the protection of the forest and water resources.
The name Parz comes from Armenian meaning clear water, reflecting how locals have long valued this place for its pure springs and reflective surface. Today, the lake remains a quiet gathering spot where you notice the connection between the mountain landscape and the water that feeds it.
You can reach the trailhead from Yerevan using the M4 highway, with travel time around two hours plus additional hiking distance from Dilijan city center. Wear proper footwear for uneven forest ground and be prepared for shade under the thick canopy of beech trees.
A red deer breeding center operates near the lake, giving you chances to spot these animals moving through their forest habitat. The animals roam naturally in the surrounding woods and sometimes cross paths with hikers.
