The limestone cave contains a large circular pool connected to the Adriatic Sea through two entrances carved by waves and erosion over time.
Archaeological excavations near the cave have revealed Bronze Age settlements and a Messapian fortification at the nearby site of Roca Vecchia.
The name originates from a tale of a princess whose beauty attracted poets from across southern Italy to write verses in her honor.
The cave opens daily from 9:00 AM to 7:00 PM, with entrance fees of 3 euros for adults and 2 euros for children and groups.
Scientists have discovered over 600 ancient inscriptions on the cave walls, representing messages in various languages from different Mediterranean civilizations.
