Alpensia Resort, Ski resort in Daegwallyeong-myeon, South Korea

Alpensia Resort is a ski resort in Daegwallyeong-myeon, in the mountainous Gangwon Province of South Korea, combining ski slopes with hotel accommodations. Situated at around 700 meters above sea level, it has six runs and three lifts, including a dedicated beginner slope called Alpha.

Alpensia was built to host events for the 2018 Pyeongchang Winter Olympics, with venues including the ski jump tower and Nordic combined facilities. After the Games, some of these structures were kept open for visitors, though the long-term use of several Olympic venues has remained a matter of discussion.

The slopes at Alpensia carry names like Alpha and Rainbow, reflecting the resort's international character. Many visitors come here to try skiing or snowboarding for the first time, guided by instructors on runs designed specifically for learning.

A visit makes most sense from December through March, when the slopes are open and snow is present. Natural snowfall in the area is light, so conditions can vary and the resort regularly uses artificial snow.

All the chair lifts at Alpensia are fitted with a safety device called U-Block, designed to stop children from falling off. The resort also lends helmets free of charge to young visitors, which is not common for a ski resort of this size.
