Laghetto del Qualido

Laghetto del Qualido is a small mountain lake in Val Masino with clear water that mirrors the surrounding granite cliffs and alpine plants. The water fills a basin encircled by steep rock walls that frame views of the higher mountain slopes.

The lake formed in 2009 when a landslide partially blocked the Mello stream and created this water body. The valley itself was carved over thousands of years by glaciers that left deep gorges and steep rock walls.

The lake sits within the Val di Mello Nature Reserve, where visitors can see firsthand the area's commitment to protecting alpine habitats. The community uses this place to demonstrate how the landscape is cared for and managed for future generations.

Summer months offer the best visiting conditions, when trails are dry and easy to walk. The path from the San Martino parking area is well marked, making it easy for visitors of all levels to find their way.

The lake is one of the newest natural features in the valley and offers a window into active geological processes still shaping the mountain landscape today. Its creation through a single event makes it a special place to witness how nature changes over time.
