Jappeloup, Bronze sculpture in Lausanne, Switzerland
Jappeloup is a bronze sculpture of a horse in a walking pose, created by Gabriel Sterck. The dark, glossy figure stands on a pale rectangular base, with its right front leg lifted and its tail hanging down.
The bronze was sculpted by Gabriel Sterck and first displayed at the Olympic Museum between 2008 and 2011. It then stood in Pierre Durand's garden in Saint-Émilion before returning to Lausanne in April.
The horse is shown mid-stride, a pose that echoes its athletic career. Visitors often stop to take photos with the sculpture, a habit that began when it stood in a private garden.
The sculpture is located outdoors on grass, near a paved path, so you can approach it easily. It is best seen in daylight, when the metal surfaces catch the light.
The sculpture was donated to the Olympic Museum by Pierre Durand on the wish of a former museum employee. It now stands as a tribute to the horse that won Olympic gold.
