"Danube Bend" Panorama Lookout
Prédikálószék Panorama Lookout is a wooden viewing platform built in 2016 atop a 639-meter rock peak near Visegrád, featuring three levels offering views of the Danube Bend, Rám-szakadék valley, and Dobogó-kő plateau. The structure was designed to blend into the natural surroundings and includes terraces, seating areas, and interior paintings of historical Hungarian rulers.
The rock peak has carried its name for generations, with the term preaching chair referring to the formation's shape resembling an elevated platform. The viewing tower was constructed in 2016 and is situated within the Danube-Ipoly National Park, which protects the region's natural heritage and historical significance.
The name Prédikálószék comes from the rock formation's shape and means preaching chair, since the peak resembles an elevated speaking platform. The area is part of the Danube-Ipoly National Park and reflects how the region's natural landscape carries layers of local meaning and history.
The trailhead is located near Dömös, accessible by bus or car with paid parking near the community center or church. The hike takes approximately three to five hours over well-marked trails with some steep rocky sections, so sturdy hiking shoes and adequate water and snacks are essential since there are no shops along the route.
The trail passes unusually shaped rocks called Vadálló-kövek, each with local nicknames like the Big Boulder or the Exclamation Mark based on their appearance. Halfway along the route stands the small Szentfa-kápolna chapel, associated with a local story of an apparition of the Virgin Mary at a beech tree, making it a quiet place of prayer for visitors.
