Große Schneegrube is a cliff in the Riesengebirge mountains in Poland, situated between two glacier-carved hollows. The rock face rises approximately 200 meters and borders small lakes that form within these bowl-shaped depressions.
The hollows formed during the ice age as glaciers carved the rock and left deep bowl-shaped depressions. This landscape structure shows the region's geological history spanning thousands of years.
Located at elevations between 1200 and 1450 meters, this spot is accessible via marked trails from the village of Piechowice. Visitors should be prepared for changeable weather conditions since the valley floor receives little direct sunlight and snow can persist until June.
The two hollows support rare alpine plants such as snow saxifrage and rock rose that have survived in this mountainous environment since the ice age. This botanical diversity makes this location significant for observing and protecting mountain vegetation.
