Vysoká pláň, Mountain summit in Karkonosze National Park, Poland
Vysoká pláň is a mountain summit at 1,497 meters in the Karkonosze range, positioned between the peaks of Vysoké kolo and Violík. A reconstructed station called Wawel provides shelter and refreshments for hikers who reach the top.
The first tourist facility in the Karkonosze Mountains was built near this summit in 1837, serving as a refreshment stand and shelter for travelers crossing the mountains. This early structure made the location a pioneering destination for mountain tourism in the region.
The mountain station was renamed Wawel after its resemblance to Krakow's royal castle, creating a link between this high-altitude location and Polish cultural heritage. This connection gives the place a symbolic meaning for visitors exploring the Karkonosze region.
The summit can be reached via marked hiking trails, including the red-marked Polish-Czech Friendship path and the yellow-marked route starting from Labská bouda. Proper footwear and weather-resistant clothing are important, as conditions at this elevation can change rapidly.
The northern and eastern slopes contain two glacial cirques, Malá and Velká Sněžná, featuring rare alpine plants and glacial lakes called Śnieżne Stawki. These geological features preserve traces of the ice age and showcase exceptional mountain ecosystems for those who venture beyond the main paths.
