The Coissy pond, Artificial pond in Aurillac, France
La mare de Coissy is an artificial pond in Aurillac, in southern France. It is surrounded by trees and bushes that provide shade and clearly define the banks.
The pond was created in the 20th century to collect rainwater and reduce the risk of flooding in the surrounding area. Over time, it also became a place for local residents to enjoy the outdoors.
The pond sits within a green area on the edge of Aurillac and draws mostly families with children. Ducks swim on the water and small birds can be heard in the bushes along the banks.
The pond is easy to reach on foot and open to all visitors at no cost. Paths around the banks and a few benches make it simple to take a short walk or sit for a while.
Although the pond was built as a technical structure to hold back water, it now looks very much like a natural pond. The vegetation that has grown around the banks developed without any deliberate landscaping.
