Wembley Park, Park in northwest London, United Kingdom
Wembley Park is a large open green space in northwest London, made up of several smaller gardens, tree-lined paths, fountains, and seating areas spread across the district. It sits next to Wembley Stadium and Wembley Arena, giving the whole area a mix of lawns and public squares.
The Wembley area was largely industrial before it was gradually transformed into a hub for sport and entertainment over the course of the 20th century. The opening of the new stadium in the 2000s marked the start of a broader renewal that reshaped the whole district.
Olympic Way is the main street running through the park toward the stadium. In summer, street musicians perform along this tree-lined avenue, where the trees planted in pairs each represent a different part of the world.
The park is easy to reach on foot from Wembley Park underground station, which is served by two tube lines. On days when the stadium hosts an event, the surrounding squares and pathways tend to be much busier than usual.
One of the park's small gardens, Zig-a-Zag Allée, takes its name from a tribute to the Spice Girls and follows a winding shape inspired by San Francisco's Lombard Street. Nearby, Arena Square holds a walk of fame with handprints left by performers including Madonna and Kylie Minogue.
