Ulubey Kanyonu Tabiat Parkı is a nature park in the town of Ulubey, in western Turkey, built around a long and deep canyon carved through soft rock by water over a very long time. The canyon walls drop steeply on both sides, with a river running along the bottom.
The canyon formed over thousands of years as water and wind slowly wore down the soft rock layer by layer. The surrounding area has been inhabited for a long time, and traces of old settlements can still be found near the park.
Sturdy shoes are a good idea for walking the paths, as some sections can be rocky or slippery after rain. There are no food or drink options near the canyon entrance, so it is worth bringing water and something to eat before you arrive.
The canyon is considered one of the longest in Europe and the Middle East combined, which makes it a reference point for geologists studying erosion patterns. At certain spots along the rim, glass-floored viewing terraces have been installed so visitors can look straight down into the depth below.
