Beycesultan

Beycesultan is an archaeological mound in Denizli Province with multiple layers of settlement remains showing stone-founded structures and mud-brick construction. The site sits near a river tributary and reveals occupation by successive civilizations.

The site was first excavated in the 1950s and reveals settlements spanning from prehistoric times through the medieval period. This long sequence of habitation makes it a key window into Anatolian history.

The site displays religious spaces and shrine rooms that reveal how early people in this region wove ritual practices into daily life. The paired chambers show that organized spiritual activity was central to the community.

The site is located near Çivril to the southwest and is straightforward to access. Visitors should prepare for walking across uneven terrain and bring adequate water and sun protection.

Excavations here uncovered the earliest silver working in the region, revealing that metalcraft developed early in this area. A palace structure also contained an underground heating system that showed sophisticated technical knowledge of that time.
