Lake Işıklı, Natural lake in Çivril, Turkey.
Lake Işıklı is a freshwater lake in the Çivril district of western Turkey, fed by tributaries, natural springs, and underground aquifers. It sits in a broad plain and drains into the Büyük Menderes River, the main river of the region.
The lake was known in antiquity, when the surrounding plain supported settlements and farming. In the 20th century it became central to modern irrigation projects that changed how agriculture worked across the whole region.
Fishermen on the shore still use small boats and simple nets, giving the water's edge a working, unhurried feel. The lake has shaped the daily rhythm of nearby villages, where farming and fishing have long gone hand in hand.
The lake is easy to reach from the town of Çivril, and several spots along the shore give open views of the water. The warmer months make walking the shoreline more comfortable, as the paths stay drier and easier to follow.
In 1984 the lake was the first place in Turkey where freshwater crayfish plague was recorded, a disease that can wipe out whole crayfish populations in a short time. That discovery turned the lake into a reference point for research on freshwater disease in the country.
