Grotte du Lazaret, Prehistoric cave and archaeological site at Mont Boron, Nice, France

The Grotte du Lazaret contains 29 distinct archaeological levels within its limestone walls, extending across an area of 11 by 3.5 meters.

Archaeological excavations conducted since 1962 have revealed over 20,000 fossilized bone fragments and cranial remains of a nine-year-old from 200,000 years ago.

The cave presents evidence of early human settlements through Acheulean stone tools, organized living spaces, and multiple hearth locations from the Lower Paleolithic period.

Visitors can access the cave from Wednesday to Sunday between 12 PM and 2 PM, with guided tours available at 33 bis boulevard Franck Pilatte.

Researchers discovered circular charcoal concentrations near sea shells, indicating possible organized shelter construction using animal skins supported by stone structures.
