Nový Bor

Nový Bor is a town in the Česká Lípa District situated in a valley on the southern edge of the Lusatian Mountains, shaped by centuries of glass production. The town center displays 18th and 19th century buildings alongside working factories and workshops that still operate throughout the surrounding areas.

The settlement began around 1700 and came under the control of the Kinsky noble family from 1710, who developed the area and expanded glass manufacturing operations. It gained town privileges in 1757, marking official recognition of its growth and economic importance.

The town's name reflects its origins as a new settlement built around glass manufacturing, which shaped local pride and identity. Walking through the streets, one notices how craftspeople and their work remain central to community life.

The town is best explored on foot, with museums and the town center close together and mostly flat terrain making walking easy. Visitors should plan ahead and check opening times, as not all attractions and workshops are accessible daily or year-round.

The Crystalex company, one of Central Europe's largest glassworks, operates here and has employed generations of craftspeople who shaped the town's economy and reputation. The factory produces high-quality crystal that is exported across the world.
