Úštěk, Medieval town in Litoměřice District, Czech Republic
Úštěk is a medieval town in the Litoměřice District in northern Bohemia. It spans 24 administrative subdivisions and sits along the I/15 road connecting major towns in the region.
First mentioned in 1218, the town received city rights in 1361. Under the Sezima noble family from 1475 onward, it entered a period of significant growth and building activity.
The main square is lined with houses featuring Gothic gables that shape the streetscape. The Church of Saints Peter and Paul displays late Baroque characteristics and anchors the town's visual identity.
Visitors reach the town most easily via the I/15 road from either Česká Lípa or Litoměřice. Its compact layout makes the main sights accessible on foot.
The Pikart Tower, built in 1428, rises above the town as its largest surviving medieval fortification. This defensive tower reflects the protective strength the settlement once commanded.
