Nové Město nad Metují

Nové Město nad Metují is a Renaissance town in the Hradec Králové Region situated on a rocky outcrop above the Metuje River. The central square displays historic buildings with arcaded galleries and unified facades that form a cohesive town center.

The town was founded in the early 1500s and rebuilt after a major fire that devastated the center in the following decades. This reconstruction shaped the Renaissance character visible in the streets and buildings today.

The Trinity Church forms the spiritual center of the town's main square, where residents have gathered for centuries. People continue to notice the ornate Baroque details and religious art that fill the interior today.

The town sits close to the Polish border and provides multiple lodging choices, including the option to stay within the castle grounds. Visitors can explore the center on foot, taking advantage of the elevated location overlooking the river.

The castle gardens contain unusual dwarf statues originally created for another landmark nearby, crafted to represent different human character traits. These sculptures catch visitors' attention with their distinctive appearance and playful design.
