Founded in 1501 by Jan Černčický z Kácova, the town suffered a devastating fire in 1526, leading to reconstruction under Wojciech z Pernštejna's ownership.
The St. Trinity Church, constructed in 1519, contains Baroque organs from 1656 and a painting from 1726 depicting the town's early appearance.
Located 15 kilometers from the Polish border, the town provides multiple accommodation options, including the opportunity to stay within the castle grounds.
The castle gardens display unusual dwarf sculptures created by Matthias Bernhard Braun, originally designed for Hospital Kuks, representing human characteristics.
