Malý Sněžník

Malý Sněžník, Mountain summit in Králický Sněžník massif, Poland.

Kleiner Schneeberg (Mały Śnieżnik, Malý Sněžník) is the second-highest summit of the Králický Sněžník massif, reaching 1327 m; older maps give 1326 m and the 1338 m figure is erroneous. Its top lies about 40 m beyond the Czech-Polish border on Polish Kłodzko territory, while the highest point on Czech soil is 1325 m. The summit and western slopes are gneiss, the eastern slopes mica schist with quartzite, graphite schist and amphibolite inserts of the Stronie series, with scree in places.

The summit lies about 40 metres beyond the Czech-Polish border, on the territory of the Polish Kłodzko land, while the highest point on Czech soil reaches 1325 m. The peak and its western slopes are built of gneisses of the Lądek-Śnieżnik metamorphic complex, the eastern slopes of mica schists with quartzite, graphite schist and amphibolite inserts of the Stronie series. The summit area belongs to the Králický Sněžník national nature reserve.

The mountain carries three names side by side: Czech Malý Sněžník, Polish Mały Śnieżnik and German Kleiner Schneeberg, the last a reminder of the German-speaking past of this borderland. The summit area lies in the Polish Mały Śnieżnik nature reserve and in the Czech Králický Sněžník national nature reserve, so the state border runs just below the top.

The summit lies about 40 metres beyond the Czech-Polish border, on the Polish side in Kłodzko Land, so the highest point on Czech territory is 1325 m. The peak area belongs to the Králický Sněžník national nature reserve and lies outside the bird protection area. Dwarf pine stands on the top are not native.

Rainfall on the eastern slopes eventually reaches the Black Sea region through the Morava River, while western slopes drain toward the Baltic Sea via Nysa Kłodzka. This makes the summit a major watershed dividing point.
