Antonín Dvořák Theatre, Opera house in central Ostrava, Czech Republic
The Antonín Dvořák Theatre features Neo-baroque architecture with reinforced concrete beams, sculptures on the facade, and two prominent reliefs in the main foyer.
The building, designed by Alexander Graf, opened in 1907 as a German theatre and became part of the National Moravian Silesian Theatre after World War I.
The theatre presents opera, drama, and ballet performances throughout the year, serving as one of three permanent stages for the National Moravian Silesian Theatre.
The renovated auditorium accommodates 517 spectators with wheelchair accessibility and receives financial support from the City of Ostrava and cultural institutions.
The Vítkovice steelworks provided innovative iron-steel beam girders and horizontal lintels during construction, setting new standards for theatre buildings in 1904.
