Czarna Kopa

Schwarze Koppe is a 1407-meter summit in the Krkonoše Mountains that straddles the Czech-Polish border in the eastern part of the range. Multiple hiking trails cross the peak and connect to lower elevation shelters and protected areas on both sides.

The mountain takes its name from the black mica schist that forms its composition, a stone type that has been significant to the region's economy for centuries. This geological material shaped both the landscape and the local industries that developed in the surrounding area.

The summit marks a border zone where Czech and Polish mountain cultures meet, with both nations sharing similar hiking traditions and mountain heritage. Visitors often notice how the landscape tells a story of connection rather than division between the two countries.

The ascent is manageable but weather can change rapidly at this elevation, so wear layers and bring proper mountain gear. The trails are well-marked, though checking conditions beforehand and planning your route helps ensure a safer visit.

The northern slope connects to an adjacent mountain to form a valley with specialized alpine plants and rare bird species adapted to high-altitude conditions. This natural formation creates a secluded habitat that remains difficult to reach from most directions.
