Česká poštovna na Sněžce

The Česká poštovna na Sněžce is a post office located at 1602 meters elevation on the summit of Mount Sněžka. The building features wood and glass walls supported by a steel framework and functions as a working postal facility despite its exposed mountain position.

The post office opened in 2007 following architect Martin Rajniš's design, which drew inspiration from polar expedition depots. The design addressed the specific construction challenges posed by extreme mountain conditions.

The building combines postal services with architectural innovation, representing contemporary Czech design principles in mountain construction techniques.

Access is only practical during certain seasons as heavy snow and strong winds affect regular reachability throughout the year. Visitors should expect variable conditions and come prepared for changing weather.

The structure incorporates specialized insulation and protective shutters designed to withstand winds up to 250 kilometers per hour. This resilience allows it to function as an operational facility where ordinary buildings could not survive the conditions.
