Luční bouda, Mountain lodge in Pec pod Sněžkou, Czech Republic.
Luční bouda is a mountain lodge sitting at around 1,410 feet (430 m) of elevation in the Krkonoše National Park in the Czech Republic, close to the Sněžka summit. It offers overnight rooms and a restaurant serving warm food, set within open high-altitude moorland and rocky ground.
The lodge was first built in the 19th century, when the Krkonoše mountains began attracting walkers and nature seekers from across Central Europe. The building went through several reconstructions over the years but kept its role as a resting place on the high plateau.
Luční bouda sits close to the summit of Sněžka and draws walkers from both the Czech and Polish sides of the mountains. The terrace and dining room fill with people resting after long trails, making it a natural meeting point at the top of the range.
The lodge is reached by marked trails from Pec pod Sněžkou and other starting points in the national park. Weather on the high plateau can change quickly at any season, so warm layers and waterproof gear are worth bringing even in summer.
Luční bouda stands on one of the windiest spots in the Czech Republic, where storms can arrive at any time of year and snow in summer is not unusual. Guests who stay overnight often wake to a completely different view of the surrounding landscape than the one they arrived to.
