Czarna Kopa, Mountain summit and scenic viewpoint in Krkonoše Mountains, Czech Republic
Schwarze Koppe is a 1407-meter summit in the Krkonoše Mountains that straddles the Czech-Polish border in the eastern part of the range. Multiple hiking trails cross the peak and connect to lower elevation shelters and protected areas on both sides.
The name comes from the mica schist, called svor in Czech, that dominates the slopes; the Polish name Czarna Kopa and German Schwarze Koppe also refer to the dark rock. The summit lies on the Czech-Polish border about 3.5 km west of Horní Malá Úpa, on the Obří hřeben ridge that continues northeast from Sněžka.
The Czech name Svorová hora comes from svor, the mica schist that dominates the slopes; the Polish and German names mean "Black Peak". The summit lies on the Czech-Polish border, where the blue Polish trail from Jelenka and the red Czech-Polish Friendship Path meet.
The ascent is manageable but weather can change rapidly at this elevation, so wear layers and bring proper mountain gear. The trails are well-marked, though checking conditions beforehand and planning your route helps ensure a safer visit.
On the Polish side, near a rock formation called Granaty, garnets were found on the mountain's slopes; the Czech name Svorová hora comes from svor, the mica schist that dominates the slopes. Polygonal soils formed here during the Pleistocene under periglacial conditions and remain on the ridge.
