Těšín Theatre, Regional theatre in Český Těšín, Czech Republic

Tesin Theatre is a professional theatre in Cesky Tesin housed in a building from 1961 at Ostravska 67. It stages productions year-round through two distinct performing companies.

The theatre was founded in August 1945, when a decree established a permanent professional stage in Český Těšín under the Ostrava National Theatre. It became independent in early 1946 and took the name Divadlo těšínského Slezska. In 1961 the ensembles moved into the new building designed by architect Zdeněk Vávra.

The theatre serves audiences in both Czech and Polish languages, reflecting the region's bilingual character and shared cultural life. Both language groups find performances that speak directly to their own traditions and everyday experiences.

The theatre stands at Ostravská 67, on the eastern side of the town centre near the Czech-Polish border, a short walk from the railway station. The building dates from 1961, when both ensembles moved in; workshops, storerooms, offices and garages were added in the 1960s.

The theatre's Polish ensemble was founded in 1951 on the initiative of director Josef Zajíc and Aleksander Gąssowski of Teatr Polski in Bielsko-Biała, with the Polish cultural-educational association PZKO. A puppet stage attempted the same year lasted only half a year; the Bajka puppet company was only established in 2008.
