Sloupová síň Pražského hradu, Column hall at Prague Castle, Czech Republic.
The Column Hall at Prague Castle is a room featuring three tiers of columns stacked vertically within the castle's walls. The external facade of the castle maintains its original appearance while the interior is organized by these layered supporting structures.
The hall was created during castle renovations between 1927 and 1930 when architect Joze Plecnik redesigned the western wing as a presidential residence. This transformation period introduced modern interior spaces while preserving the medieval structure of the castle.
The Column Hall functions as a ceremonial entrance space with a grand staircase leading to the northern wing, particularly toward the Spanish Hall.
The hall can be reached through the Matthias Gate and serves as a connecting passage between different areas of the castle. From here, visitors can continue toward the Spanish Hall and Rudolf Gallery.
The three column tiers align with different floor levels from earlier building periods at the castle, which inspired the hall's name. This design shows how Plecnik integrated older structural layers into his modern redesign rather than removing them.
