Staré purkrabství

The Old Burgrave's House is a structure within Prague Castle that features an ornate entrance gateway decorated with four coats of arms. The building connects to the Black Tower and retains original 16th-century decorative elements, including painted wooden ceilings and courtly frescoes.

The structure was built in the 14th century and briefly housed Charles IV before his coronation as king and emperor. The adjoining Black Tower earned its name from smoke stains following the 1541 fire and was later used as a debtor's prison.

The building's surroundings host theater performances during summer months, creating a space where visitors witness creative works presented against medieval walls. This blend of performance and architecture shapes how people experience and engage with the site today.

The building sits on Jirska Street within the Prague Castle grounds and is readily accessible along the castle paths. Visitors should note that it functions as an active cultural venue, particularly during summer performances.
