Záboj and Slavoj

Záboj and Slavoj is a stone sculpture showing two standing figures created by Josef Václav Myslbek in 1895. The work is part of a four-pair monument collection positioned throughout this location.

The sculpture was created in 1895 by the sculptor Myslbek and originally stood on Palacký Bridge. It was later moved to its current location to become part of a larger monument group.

These figures come from an ancient manuscript that was later revealed to be a literary creation from the 1800s. Despite this discovery, they remain part of how people understand Czech artistic heritage today.

The sculpture is located in Vyšehradské gardens and is easily reached via Prague's metro system with nearby stations. The location is open to visitors and invites walking, with the figures situated among park pathways.

The figures are based on characters from a manuscript that was later revealed to be a hoax created in the 1800s. Yet the sculpture endures as a genuine artwork, showing the complexity between history, literature, and artistic creation.
