Karlachovy sady, Urban park in Vyšehrad district, Czech Republic
Karlachovy sady is a compact green space in the Vyšehrad district with sandy pathways bordered by hawthorn hedges and mixed tree varieties. The site sits at an elevated position and provides benches for visitors to rest and enjoy the surroundings.
The site was established in 1889 by the Vyšehrad chapter and transformed former sloping fields into a leveled garden space. The transformation involved using construction materials to grade and prepare the ground for planting.
A stone statue of St. John of Nepomuk stands in the central area, while a life-sized statue of Provost Karlach was added in 2003.
The park welcomes visitors year-round and is easily accessible from the surrounding neighborhood. Wear comfortable shoes as the sandy pathways and elevated terrain require steady footing.
A pear tree grafted from a historic specimen in Bela near Turnov was planted beside a Gothic well in the year 2000. The tree represents a living link to regional botanical heritage and connects this place to distant landscapes.
