Tomas Bata Memorial, Memorial building in Zlín, Czech Republic
The Tomas Bata Memorial is a three-story structure with extensive glass walls and an open transparent interior organized by rhythmic supporting columns. The spaces are filled with natural light that floods in through the glazing.
The building was completed in 1933, just over a year after Bata died in an aircraft accident. Architect František Lydie Gahura designed it as a memorial to one of the era's most influential industrialists.
The building displays Bata's personal collection including items from his daily life as an industrialist and innovator. Visitors can understand his character through the objects he actually used.
The ground floor is accessible for visitors with reduced mobility, and you can move through the exhibition at your own pace. The spaces are laid out clearly to help you take in the displays.
The flooring is made from specially painted cast concrete, crafted with meticulous detail by hand. These floors remain original from 1933 and show the care taken in every element of the design.
