Leopoldova brána

Leopoldova brána is a Baroque gate in Vyšehrad featuring a double entrance with a central archway containing two gunports and ornamental stone carvings of lions and coats of arms. The structure is supported by thick stone walls and functions as a key passage within the historic fortification complex.

The gate was built in 1669 during the early Baroque period and received its name from Emperor Leopold, who backed the restoration of Vyšehrad's fortifications. It became part of the defense systems expanded during this era to protect the settlement.

The gate is named after Emperor Leopold and served as a symbol of Vyšehrad's role as a fortified settlement representing power and protection. Visitors can see carved lions and coats of arms in the stonework, which displayed imperial authority.
