Church of Saint John of Nepomuk, Roman Catholic church in Královec, Czech Republic

The Church of Saint John of Nepomuk is a single-nave building in the centre of Královec, with a slender tower set in front of its facade. The presbytery is recessed and closed by a semicircular apse; the nave is lit on two sides by three tall, round-arched windows. It has no sacristy, and the space behind the altar served for storing vestments and liturgical items.

A society founded in 1923 raised funds for a new church to replace the older chapel of the same dedication, sending tens of thousands of letters asking for contributions. The foundation stone was laid on 10 August 1924 and the Žacléř builder Edmund Schubert led the work, paid entirely by voluntary donations. Three bells were blessed on 6 November 1927 and the church was consecrated on 5 August 1928. In 1940 the bells were requisitioned for war production; a replacement hung in the tower only after the 1994 reconstruction, transferred from the church of St Martin in Javorník u Trutnova.

The church is a filial church of the Roman Catholic parish of Žacléř; Královec belonged to the Bernartice parish until it was dissolved on 1 January 2006. Above the presbytery arch an inscription in Gothic-style lettering reads Heiliger Johannes, bitte bei Gott für uns, replaced after 1945 by the Czech Svatý Jene Nep. oroduj za nás. The statues flanking the arch were later replaced by those of the Sacred Heart and the Virgin Mary with Child.

The church stands in the centre of Královec, in the Trutnov district, and is a filial church of the Roman Catholic parish of Žacléř. It has no sacristy: the space behind the altar served to store liturgical vessels and vestments. The tower bell came from St Martin's church in Javorník u Trutnova.
