Sad Dr. Milady Horákové

Sad Dr. Milady Horákové is an urban park in central Ostrava with winding paths that lead through a canopy of shade trees. Linden and maple trees create natural corridors where visitors can walk and rest at various points throughout the grounds.

The site began as a cemetery in 1875 and served the city as a burial ground for decades. When the cemetery closed in the 1950s, the grounds were transformed into a public park.

The park displays sculptures created during international artistic gatherings that shape how people experience the open space. These works reflect how art becomes part of everyday life in the city.

The park is centrally located near a shopping center, hospital, cultural venue, cinema, and theater, making it easy to reach and combine with other activities. Comfortable shoes are helpful since the paths wind naturally through tree cover.

A memorial dedicated to the former Jewish cemetery stands in the park, honoring a community that once used this land for burial. This monument marks an important layer of the city's past that visitors might not initially notice.
