Lake Corpus Christi State Park, State park with lake access in San Patricio County, US.
Lake Corpus Christi State Park is a Texas state park on the eastern shore of Lake Corpus Christi in San Patricio County, South Texas. The terrain shifts between brush country, clusters of oak and pine trees, and low-lying areas that meet the water's edge.
The park was built between 1934 and 1935 by the Civilian Conservation Corps as part of Depression-era work programs, with stone structures, bridges, and roads constructed in a Mediterranean style. Many of those original elements are still standing and give the park much of its current character.
The park sits in an area where Karankawa and Lipan Apache peoples once traveled and hunted, and traces of that past show up in the names of nearby landmarks. Today, local families gather here on weekends for fishing and picnics along the shore.
The park has two lit fishing piers, one of which is wheelchair accessible, making it easy to reach the water from different points along the shore. Open lakeside areas can be very exposed to the sun, so bringing water and sun protection is a good idea year-round.
The park sits along a key route for birds traveling between North and South America, and over 200 species have been recorded here across different seasons. This makes it one of the more active spots for bird watching along the Texas Gulf Coast.
